Last Night I Sang to the Monster

Last Night I Sang to the Monster by Benjamin Saenz is one of the best books I've read all year.Teenage Zach wakes up in rehab; he knows he's an alcoholic but he can't remember how he got there or what it is that gives him screaming nightmares every night. Everyone he meets in rehab has their own monster/demon they're struggling to overcome. Will he gain the courage to deal with his monster and remember what happened?

If you're fascinated by dark secrets or have one of your own, read this book - it's completely awesome!

Going Bovine

Going Bovine by Libba Bray won the 2010 Michael L. Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Fiction. This is the 10th Anniversary of the Printz Award, named after the late Michael Printz, a school librarian from Topeka, Kansas. Libba Bray is the New York Times Bestselling author of books such as A Great and Terrible Beauty.

Going Bovine tells the story of Cameron Smith, a 16-year-old high school student who is a bit of a slacker. When he finds himself diagnosed with Creutzfeld Jakob's disease (aka mad cow disease), he sets off on a road trip with a death-obsessed video gaming dwarf he meets in the hospital, in an attempt to find a cure.

After living in London during the mid-nineties mad cow scare and ban on British beef, I've had an interest in this strange and terrible disease. So, I was excited to read this complex and funny book. Here's more about the book in the author's words:
